Pen Holder - part 2... embellishments with Copics...

>> Saturday, June 30, 2012

Here's my post that should have been up yesterday... Sorry for the delay, I'm still battling the same headache that kept me from the computer yesterday so you'll have to bare with the brevity of this post...

Last fortnight I said I'd show you my completed pen holder for  Mad for Markers' 'Anything But A Card/Layout' challenge. I like things clean and simple so this is what I ended up with...

The ribbons and flowers are all coloured with BV00.

A notebox set.

>> Thursday, June 28, 2012

Good evening everyone,
This is a very late post due to a very naughty little monster named Poppy! she is all tantrums at the moment so i can only get stuff done when she is in bed.
Ok! Now she is asleep i can share with you my creation.

I decided to make a box set for note cards, tags etc.
I used a bunch of Fynmark nostalgia papers and made a box for my note cards to go in.
I decorated with a Fiskars border punch called lacy doubles, and then got colouring with my copics to make the 6 cards to go with the set.
I also made a little note book with a cute typewriter stamp coloured with copics also.

All 6 cards are the same in the set.
For the some odd girl stamped image i used the following colours...
E00,02,11,29,33,35,37,47,49 and 57
R22,24,27
Y11,15,17
B95,97,99
I also used 0 colourless blender solution with fabric to make the denim effect of her pants.

For the typewriter i used, C0,3,5,7 and red glitter.

As you can see in the note set, there is a note book, a section for your stamps, a pen, tags, mini cards and the 6 note cards also.

I hope you have enjoyed this little collection, If you are interested in the instructions to make this set feel free to email me at osirisandloki(at)gmail(dot)com.

All the copics i used can be purchased at the Mad for Markers store along with many some odd girl stamps!

Copic Refill Inks..

>> Wednesday, June 27, 2012

Hi everyone,
I decided I would have a play with the ink refills for copics on some photo paper,
So I created a background using the inks and then stamped some images over the top.
Colours used were C1,C3,RV21 and RV20.
Here is the finished project all framed up.

It was fun just to play around with the inks by just dripping them onto the photo paper...
you can come up with some lovely patterns!!

3d item

>> Tuesday, June 19, 2012

Hi all, it's Kasey here, I'm so excited! This is my very first post as the newest member of the Mad for Markers design team.  Wooo Hoooo!!! thanks Sammi for inviting me to play with your amazing Design Team for a while.

This month's challenge is all about doing something other than a card or a layout.  If you look to the entries for this month, you'll see my little flower shoes there at 1st spot.

I've also got a 3d item for you.  Shhhh it is actually a card, but what a card!  This teepee card is amazingly simple to make and such fun.

I've used three amazing Anyas on this project and they were such a joy to colour up. I've also coloured some flowers to match my Anyas.  Lots of bling and some nestie trims.  For a list of all the copic colours I've used, please go to my post here.

Sammi has a fabulous range of Copics, accessories and stamps in her store

Can't wait to see what amazing projects you come up with.

Cheers,
Kasey ~ in Oz

Pen Holder - part 1... using a Mist-It...

>> Friday, June 15, 2012

This month at Mad for Markers we're looking for 'Anything But A Card/Layout' so I thought I'd share with you a project I'm working on. I decided that my desk required a little more organisation and that such organisation would be a good excuse for some craft... so what follows is part 1 - stay tuned for the completion next fortnight...

First step (after finding the surface of my desk below all the layers of things on top of it) was to give my new pen holder a background, so I used my Mist-It filled with a mixture of B79 refill and Colourless Blender.

Then I coloured the main image using E50, E51, E33, E35, E37, B02, B05, B24, B29, BV02, BV04, BV13, V12, V15, RV02, RV04, YG09, YG17, G07, G17, YR04, Y08. (*)

(*) I almost took this image back off the holder again because I couldn't find where I'd put my list of colours... hence the lateness of this post (plus the sleep I had this afternoon before finding it)

Something different........

>> Thursday, June 14, 2012

hello everyone and have i got something different to use your copics with today!

Ok this took a lot of thinking about so i chose to decorate hair clips using copic markers.

Firstly let me show you the match book i made to gift wrap them in.

I used some kraft card, a some odd girl stamp and of course i coloured with copics. (C5,7,R24,Y8)

Here are the hair clips i made. I will pop instruction below the pics on how i made them.

To get this look i used 2 hair clip bases and 2 cabochons. I took the back of each cabochon and dotted on different coloured copic markers
Here are the colours i used.

Once all the colours had bled into each other and dried i put a thin layer of glossy accents over the colour. i was going to use clear nail polish but as the copics are alcohol based the nail polish bleeds into the copics and ruins the pattern. so as glossy accents are water based this works great.
Once the layer of glossy accents has dried i then took some silver holographic nail polish and layered this on top. then a coat of plain silver nail polish. this gives that great stain glass window effect.

Well i hope you liked this post and if you would like to have a go at this idea why not enter the monthly challenge on the right sidebar.
If you are looking for the clips and cabochons i got mine from ebay.

Tara :)

Hey Kaylee Journal

>> Tuesday, June 12, 2012

This month we at Mad for Markers are running an off the page challenge...so no cards and layouts here.  I must admit I freaked out a little by this challenge myself as I love making the odd card and don't stem away from it much at all.

Well this week I covered my Journal I use to record my copic colours used of my favourite cards and I am quite pleased with the outcome.  I will now be covering all my journals and my DD has already put a request to make her one!

A little  close Up!

One of it standing up and the mess on my desk...hehe

All those lovely copics used.

If you want to know anymore details about my card you are welcome to check out my blog here

ATC

>> Friday, June 8, 2012

Hi Everyone,
Welcome to another challenge here at the Mad for Markers Challenge Blog.

........ Off the Page (anything but a card for layout).

For your inspiration today, I decided to do an ATC.
Instead of using a coloured image, I used the the reinkers & my air compressor to create a background on the back on an Acrylic ATC.
The flowers are resin from Handmade Halo and I coloured them with my copics.

Copic Reinkers Used:
R81, R83. R85

Until next time

Karate keyrings

>> Wednesday, June 6, 2012

Hi Everyone!

Susan here with my OFF THE PAGE project!
Now I admit, I don't do a lot of OTP  but I had to have a go at making shrinky keyrings for my niece and nephew.

This top photo is before shrinking.

I printed the digital images onto the inkjet compatible shrink plastic.

Voila! The finished product, complete with swivel clips.

Notice how much darker Ian's hair is in the bottom photo.
This is why I decided not to colour the skin as it ended up being really blotchy and dark.

Copics Used:
Blonde Hair: E50, E53, YR21

Brunette Hair: E50, E53, E57, E59

Belt: C7

I'd love to hear about your experiments with shrink plastic and copics!
Keep checking back for more inspiration from the talented DT.

Happy Colouring!

New Challenge :: Off the PAGE (no cards, Layouts)

>> Tuesday, June 5, 2012

Good morning ( It's still just morning)!!!

I'm back with the latest challenge ... This month we would love to see you using your Copics in some OFF the Page creations... we want to see something other than cards or scrapbook layouts... This can still be a paper project or it could even be your chance to try colouring on something other than paper???

Here is a little inspiration to get you thinking... My friends and I decided to decorate our own shoes ... so we picked up some plain white canvas shoes from Kmart and ... with a multiliner ( a sharpie works too) we drew on our patterns....

Here is the final result of them all coloured up....

***WARNING***
Colouring on canvas soaks up the ink and thus uses your ink much more quickly than colouring on paper does!! It may also bleed so watch out for those lines .. Maybe you don't even need to colour all the way to the line :)

We did a similar challenge way back in June 2010... so for more inspiration you can check out the original Mad for Markers blog ... Here are some points to remember... a couple of tips and bits of advice on what not to colour with your Copics...
this is adapted from the Copic Certification Student manual (adapted from www.ilikemarkers.blogspot.com)

Things that will hurt your markers...
* White out or opaque white - do not colour over white out even if dry as it will transfer some white to your marker tip which will then leave white marks in the middle of your colouring.

* Un-fired clay - will discolour your tip as bits of the clay clog the tips fibres.
Ceramic paint-it-yourself ornaments are fine, sculpey that is baked or glazed ceramics are ok.

* Acrylic paints - you might get away with some quick work (not recommended) but if you colour over most acrylics they will clog your tip. Best to use paint over the top of markers OR seal the paint first with a waterbased varnish.

* Chalks, oils, pastels - use after you do your Copic work.

*untested inks or pens

* Solvents or oils

RULE of THUMB .. if something smears when it gets wet and is opaque, STAY away or test it first. If you must colour over it - use your airbrush!!
